1. Introduction and Who We Are
This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which Cooking With Ornella collects, uses, maintains, and discloses information collected from users (each, a “User”) of the cookingwithornella.com website (“Site”).
We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for European users, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) for US users, and the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (LFPDPPP) for Mexican users.
Data Controller / Responsible Party:
- Name: Ornella Cigarroa
- Website: cookingwithornella.com
- Email: contact@cookingwithornella.com
2. What Personal Data We Collect and Why
We collect data for “Primary Purposes” (essential to provide the service) and “Secondary Purposes” (analytics and marketing).
A. Comments (Primary Purpose)
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form (Name, Email, Website, and Comment text), and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
B. Newsletter (Primary & Secondary Purpose)
We use MailerLite to manage our email marketing subscriber list and to send emails to our subscribers.
- Data Collected: Email Address.
- Consent: We use a “Double Opt-in” process. You must explicitly confirm your subscription via email. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link in the footer of our emails.
- Processor: MailerLite. You can view their privacy policy here: https://www.mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
C. Recipe Ratings (Primary Purpose)
We use WP Recipe Maker to display recipes. When you rate a recipe, a cookie or local storage item is utilized to prevent you from voting multiple times on the same recipe. We may store your IP address associated with the vote to verify the integrity of the ratings.
D. Analytics (Secondary Purpose)
We use Google Analytics (GA4) via the Google Site Kit plugin to understand how visitors interact with our website (e.g., which recipes are most popular, which countries visitors come from).
- Data Collected: IP address (anonymized), browser type, device type, pages visited, time spent on site.
- Retention: User-level and event-level data is stored by Google Analytics for 2 months or 14 months depending on settings, then automatically deleted.
3. Advertising and Cookies
Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We use them for:
- Functionality: Keeping you logged in or remembering your details in the comment form so you don’t have to re-fill them (these last for one year).
- Analytics: Tracking site usage (Google Analytics).
- Advertising: Serving relevant ads.
Programmatic Advertising
We may display advertisements on this site. These ads are served by third-party advertising networks (such as Google AdSense). These vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites.
- California Residents: See Section 6 regarding your right to opt-out of the “sale/sharing” of personal info via ads.
- All Users: You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings.
4. International Data Transfers
Cooking With Ornella operates globally. By using this Site, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our servers and third-party service providers (Google, MailerLite) are located. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and Data Processing Agreements to ensure your data remains protected according to GDPR standards.

Under California law, the use of advertising cookies and analytics tools can be considered a “sale” or “share” of personal information. We do not sell your name or email to data brokers for money. However, we do allow third-party ad networks to collect data via cookies.
- Categories of Information Collected (Last 12 Months): Identifiers (IP address, email, cookie ID), Internet activity (browsing history on our site).
- Right to Opt-Out: You may opt out of interest-based advertising by using the cookie consent settings on our site or by using the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out tool.
